WASHINGTON – Lena Zwarensteyn, Senior Director of the Fair Courts Program at the Leaders’ Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement after the Senate confirmed Roopali Desai to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit :

“Roopali Desai has dedicated her impressive career to equal justice for all. The kind of broad and expansive civil rights experience she brings to the federal bench, including experience defending our democracy and our freedom to vote, is much needed in our justice system. Desai also makes history, as she will be the first South Asian judge to serve on this court. We thank the senators who voted to confirm Desai, who will bring vital and underrepresented prospects to the Ninth Circuit. »
