Florida High Court suggests adding 6th appeals district

By Carolina Bolado (Nov 24, 2021, 4:38 p.m. EST) – The Florida Supreme Court recommended the addition of a sixth Florida appellate district on Wednesday and certified the need for six additional appellate judges to rectify what the High Court considers Jacksonville judges to be underrepresented on the appeals bench.

The Supreme Court adopted the recommendation of the District Court of Appeal’s Workload and Jurisdiction Assessment Panel, which said adding another appeal court would promote public confidence in the judiciary by addressing the “serious under-representation” of judges in the Fourth Judicial Circuit, which includes Jacksonville, one of the state’s largest metropolitan areas.
