In a California appeals court, CBS again triumphed over the talent agent who thought Judge Judy Sheindlin’s $ 47 million annual salary was a bizarre deal.
The costume came from Richard Lawrence ‘Rebel Entertainment Partners, the successor in the interest of the agency that originally packed Judge Judy. For the agency’s work, Lawrence was still entitled to five percent of the Judge Judynet profits of, and furthermore, there would be no deduction for monies paid to other profit participants. As such, Sheindlin’s lucrative salary has sparked grievances. Was she taking a salary instead of profits to fuck Lawrence? A chartered accountant testified that ten years ago other TV stars like Jay Leno and David Letterman were paid no more than $ 28 million a year and therefore anything over that amount was profit in disguise . The litigation led Sheindlin to explain himself in a Hall of Fame-worthy deposition, and the trial judge ultimately came to the conclusion that there was no bad faith in the number of salaries since Sheindlin had CBS on a barrel.
A state appeals court confirmed on Friday.
“Any allocation of Sheindlin’s salary to some form of profit sharing would, by definition, introduce a risk Sheindlin was unwilling to accept,” the opinion states. “In any event, we haven’t uncovered any authority, and Rebel offers none, forcing an entity to reclassify an artist’s salary as something other than salary for accounting purposes.”
This dispute is part of a multi-level dispute that also includes fallout and a library sale.
